It’s very common for brides to want to shed a few pounds and tone up before their wedding. It’s also very common to make a few mistakes while plunging into their wedding diet. Taking pride in your appearance is always something we’ll endorse, but not at the expense of your health.

Read on to find 7 wedding diet mistakes so that you can stay healthy and energetic while you put effort into fitting into your wedding gown.

No Exercise

The biggest mistake that wedding dieters make is neglecting exercise and relying on diet alone. As a general rule 75% of weight loss is attributed to diet while exercise contributes 25%. So your goals become much more attainable if you do a little of both. Losing weight with diet is ok, but the added bonus of exercise means you’ll retain your bone density and energy levels, which you’re definitely going to need on your big day.

No Plan

You’ll be much more successful with your pre wedding diet if you go into it with specific goals. Knowing how many pounds or inches you want to drop tells you exactly how much effort you have to put into your diet plan before wedding.

Your wedding diet plan should start as early as possible. With a goal in place, you can set smaller daily or weekly goals such as reducing bad foot intake and increasing aerobic exercise.

Set an immediate goal for the first few days, and add to them as time progresses. Obtaining the initial smaller goals feels great and motivates you to keep going.

Too much all at once

Leaving things to the last minute and bing dieting won’t get you very far. You may lose a little water weight, but it won’t be something that lasts.

If you simply stop eating, you’ll have no energy and burn out quickly. If you hit the gym too hard it becomes increasingly less likely you’ll be heading back the next day. Pushing yourself to exhaustion may feel like you’ve accomplished something in the moment, but you’re really just making it harder to achieve your long term goals.

The best wedding diet considers your weight, your tone, your energy, and your mental well-being.

Starvation

Dieting isn’t about avoiding food, it’s about eating the right food. Part of your overall plan should include a wedding diet meal plan. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to consult a dietician to understand more about your body type and how many calories are required for you to get through the day in a healthy manner – everyone is different.

Build a diet plan that works with your body’s needs, and make sure that your brain, blood, organs and all their systems are getting the vitamins and nutrients they need to thrive. A highly effective body does far more for weight loss in the long term.

Pills

While pursuing your wedding weight loss diet, be very cautious when considering diet pills. Most have been associated with:

  • Increased blood pressure and heart rate
  • Insomnia
  • Nervousness
  • Restlessness
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • There’s more, but we think you get it

You don’t want any of these symptoms getting in the way of your bride diet, or the rest of the wedding for that matter.

Even if you do happen to find a diet pill that’s perfectly safe and effective, it shouldn’t be relied on as the sole source of progress. Diet and exercise should always be considered your primary tools for dropping dress sizes, while pills should be supplemental.

Hydration

Often overlooked wedding weight loss tips involve water.

  • No, there is no magic ‘8 cups a day’ number
  • Yes, you can drink too much. BUT it would be a tremendous amount before your electrolytes become imbalanced.

Drinking water prior to a meal helps you painlessly eat less. Not only that, it also helps with every single body function and process, including digestion and elimination.

Instead of chugging a gallon or 2 a few times a day, carry some water with you that you can sip on periodically. Feel free to toss in some lemon wedges or cucumbers to give it a little flavor, but steer clear of any flavor drops that contain sugars or chemicals.

Cheat Days

It feels so good to reward yourself at the end of a hard week. You followed through with your wedding diets and workout plans and its time to let yourself off the hook for a day.

This is acceptable, but only if you actually are sticking to your weightloss for wedding plan AND if you don’t overdo it.

Cheat days are designed to help you avoid binging. If you go overboard on your cheat day, you’ll have trouble getting back into the swing of things and could derail all of your efforts.

How to lose weight for wedding shouldn’t be the priority? Your main goal should be losing unwanted fat, replacing it with muscle, and keeping mentally fit and energetic while doing so. The number on the scale isn’t important, it’s your overall health and fitness that counts.
