Alcohol hangovers may lead to impaired cognitive functions and affect the performance of everyday tasks such as driving, according to a 2018 study on the effects of heavy alcohol consumption. Hangovers can also lead to several unpleasant physiological and psychological effects including headaches, nausea, lethargy, sensitivity to light, dysphoria, diarrhea, and heightened feelings of depression or anxiety. When facing severe hangovers, many opt to buy over the counter medicine that could have long term negative effects when taken too many times. Instead of using such medicine, you should try one of the many hangover-fighting vegetables that could already be sitting in your fridge.
Prepare beetroot juice
A hangover can lead to a significant drop in stamina. Beets are rich in nitric oxide which boosts your stamina by increasing blood flow and oxygen efficiency. Beets also have a high water content which rehydrates your body and reduces the severity of your hangover. You can eat your beets raw or make some beet juice to cure your hangover. If you are eating it raw, just peel off the skin and cut it into your desired sizes. To prepare beet juice, peel your beets, chop them up, and throw them into your juicer. Separate the pulp from the juice and proceed to drink your beet juice.
How about some ginger
Ginger is a natural hangover cure that can help you fight some of the symptoms of your hangover. One symptom that ginger can help you fight is hangover nausea. Several studies show that gingerol, the active ingredient in ginger, can be used to relieve stomach ache. In fact, ginger tea is used by pregnant women to treat morning sickness. If you constantly suffer from hangover nausea, you can use ginger to treat it safely and effectively. Just chew about 3 small pieces of ginger or prepare some ginger tea for fast relief.
Try some turmeric
The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, reduces the effects of ethanol toxicity which includes hangovers. Curcumin cleans up the liver and stomach lining which relieves hangover nausea and allows your liver to produce the glucose your body needs to feel normal again. You can take turmeric as a root, in powder form, or as a drink. The dosage will depend on the amount of alcohol you consume, the type of turmeric you use, among others.
You should never let a hangover force you to spend your day in bed regretting your poor drinking habits. While these methods will help you manage the symptoms of your hangover, the best way to avoid a hangover is by abstaining or knowing how to drink in moderation.
