Are Ham and Cheese Pinwheels difficult to make?
Don’t let these pastries intimidate you—using store-bought crescent roll dough makes them as easy as a roll-up sandwich! Just make sure to use plenty of flour on the board to keep the dough sheet from sticking and keep the rolls as refrigerator-cold as possible. The other ingredients are easily found in the deli and produce sections of any grocery store.
How to make Ham and Cheese Pinwheels
Ingredients
- 1 refrigerated thin-crust gluten-free pizza dough
- 8 oz ham (very thinly sliced)
- 4 oz mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 1/2 cups Walden Farms Honey Dijon Dressing
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds (or poppy seeds)
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 350° and spray a 9×13” baking pan.
- Unroll pizza dough on a cutting board; brush half of the dressing on it. Lay the ham slices, followed by the cheese. Start out from the end closest to you and roll the dough tightly, jelly-roll style. Pinch the ends. Cut the roll into 12 even pieces and lay them flat on the pan. Drizzle the other half of the remaining dressing and top with the poppy or sesame seeds. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Pinwheels can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days and simply reheated. They can also be frozen.
note: for a dairy free option swap the mozzarella cheese with plant based cheese.
Can ham and cheese pinwheels be frozen?
Chilled and sliced pinwheels can be placed on a parchment-lined baking sheet and frozen until firm. Once frozen, place the pinwheels in a plastic zip-top bag and keep frozen for up to 1 month. Simply bake them for a few extra minutes until golden brown and bursting with melty cheese. These are the ultimate secret weapon for hosting. When company starts to arrive, simply pop these in the oven!
How do you store leftover ham and cheese pinwheels?
Store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days. You can reheat pinwheels in the microwave or in a 350-degree oven for five to seven minutes.
