The Surfrider Foundation is an organization “dedicated to the protection and enjoyment” of the world’s beaches and oceans. Specifically, Surfriders Beach Cleanup program is a group of over 34,000 volunteers who traverse the world’s beaches and in 2023 cleaned up over 225,000lbs of trash. This organization confirms the suspicion that the day after the 4th of July is the dirtiest beach cleanup day of the year. They say that the majority of pollution found on beaches is single-use plastics, such as plastic bags, water bottles, and utensils to name a few. The Surfriders have list of Ocean Friendly Restaurants that demonstrate what a plastic-free future could look like. Take a look at the Surfriders website to see how you can reduce your plastic use and help keep our beaches clean.
