Candy is the Official Treat of Halloween Season

A new survey confirms that candy and sweets have solidified their essential role in majority of America’s Halloween festivities. Halloween is one of the biggest, most profitable times of the year for the confectioner and candy industry. In 2023 the industry made over $6.4 billion across the country, and the National Confectioners Association (NCA) is the frontrunner of the $48 billion confectionary industry. Their aim is to create an environment that fosters candy culture. The NCA has discovered that the average American is more likely to buy candy in October if is Halloween themed, so they are catering to the masses by shaping their candies like pumpkins, bats, and ghosts.

According to a recent survey from the National Confectioners Association, 94% of people share chocolate and candy with friends and family on Halloween. The NCA also confirms that more than half of all Americans start enjoying Halloween candy before October 31st. Candy is so strongly associated with Halloween that leading up to October 31st the average American consumes an extra teaspoon of added sugar a day.

John Downs, the president and CEO of the National Confectioners Association stated “What would the Halloween season be without chocolate and candy? It is clear that Halloween candy is a bona fide retail phenomenon in 2024, with demand from consumers starting earlier in the year and extending festivities far beyond October 31. No matter how consumers choose to mark the occasion, there’s no question that chocolate and candy are a fun and unique centerpiece of Americans’ Halloween celebrations.”
