The Many Products Made from Honeybees

Products made by Honeybees

Many people don’t realize the variety of products that come from honeybees. Bees might seem like simple creatures, useful for merely the production of honey. However, the complexity of the honeybee allows the species to produce many other substances that are incredibly useful in human life. Learn about the many products made from honeybees by reading below.

Bee Pollen

Bee pollen is one of the main ingredients that starts the honey-making process for the bees. When bees pollinate flowers, the male seed of the flower mixes with the bees’ digestive enzymes to create the bee pollen. It’s available on the market as a product that promotes better health with its proteins, amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, beneficial fatty acids, and antiviral properties.

Beeswax is a natural secretion from a bee’s wax glands, which are located on the sides of its body. The wax is generally used as a building block in the honeycomb, where the honey is stored. Beeswax can be used to create many human products. For example, it’s often an important ingredient in homemade lip balm and other beauty and skin care products. Beeswax can also be used to make candles and furniture polish.

Royal Jelly

Made from the secretions from worker bees’ salivary glands, royal jelly is another product with beneficial properties, including B5 and B6 vitamins as well as amino acids. It also acts as an antioxidant believed to stimulate tissue growth, which means it can help with cell regeneration and muscle growth.

Honeybees heavily rely on propolis, a substance created from a combination of bees’ saliva and the resins that drip from tree buds. Bees can use propolis to protect themselves from extreme dangers such as disease and climatic changes such as the wind and cold. Meanwhile, we can use propolis to fight against many illnesses because of its antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. This makes it an important ingredient in cut and wound ointments.

Raw Honey

Of course, the most commonly recognized product made from honeybees is honey. There’s a significant difference between raw honey and regular honey. Regular honey goes through a heavy filtering and pasteurization process, which removes many of the healthy elements. Raw honey is the purest form of honey, including all the enzymes, antioxidants, and healing properties that make it such a popular natural product.
